Famine 2009 Recap
February 27 - 28
Famine 2009 was an awesome event. Our kids raised over $6000.00, collected 40 bags of food, made 40 + blankets for a local NICU, worked at food pantries, praised, worshiped, fasted, prayed and made a difference! We had a great time and broke the fast with a subsistence meal. We learned about Mozambique, and hunger in our area. We went out into the community and worked. It was awesome.
Thank you to the entire Atonement congregation for your prayers and support!

World Vision's 30 Hour Famine
World Vision's 30 Hour Famine has become the most talked-about youth event amongst the students in our Youth Ministry. Our students desire to be the generation to end poverty. I believe God is calling our teens to make a difference in the lives of young children around the world. Our teens are answering that call!
The Goal
Our goal each year is two faceted: raise as much money possible to help combat hunger and open our eyes and hearts.
In the five years Atonement has participated in the 30 Hour Famine, the youth have raised over $36,000.00! That is equivalent to saving ONE FULL DAY of children! In 2006, Atonement was the #1 Famine fundraiser in ND, raising nearly $7,000. In 2007 we were in the top 20 Famine fundraising groups in the nation, with nearly $9,000. In 2008 we raised nearly $9,000 again. Praise God! Our goal in 2009 was $15,000.Though we didn't make our goal in 2009, our youth and congregation again demonstrated their commitment to help end poverty.
But, Famine isn't just about raising money. It's about opening our eyes to the real-life situations around the world and our hearts to make a difference. In that, our group ALWAYS meets and exceeds the goal!
What is the Famine?
The 30 Hour Famine is a world-wide student movement to fight hunger throughout the world. Teens ask for sponsor donations and go 30 hours without food. They experience real hunger and participate in activities that help them better understand life in developing countries. Each year, nearly one million teens in 21 countries participate in the Famine. The funds raised during the 30 Hour Famine will be used to help feed hungry children and families all over the world. Over the last 16 years, Famine participants have raised more than $100 million to fight hunger.
Did you know?
The statistics on hunger and poverty are staggering...
- 26,000 children die every day from hunger and preventable causes.
- 3,000 children die every day from malaria... a mosquito bite... all they need is a treated mosquito net, which would cost about $10.
- 6,000 children die every day from water-related diseases...all they need is a well.
- 6,000 people die every day from AIDS...it's totally preventable. We can change this!
