Atonement Stragiegic Plan

Dear Atonement Members and Friends,

For months leaders, staff and some of you have been gathering to pray and vision about the future of Atonement.  Atonement takes seriously that we are the Body of Christ.  We represent Jesus in our community and world.  Therefore we are to be engaged in the same life-giving, healing, and discipling work Jesus did while on earth.  The church of Jesus Christ is to be about furthering our Lord’s kingdom.

The following is a strategic plan that will guide some new emphasis over these next five years.  First, it is important to say that this is more about the values that will shape us and the culture of our church and ministry than about programs.  That said, each area will be a vital, active area of ministry.  Each area will need to engage our Atonement family if we are going to accomplish what we believe God has called us to.

You will also notice that this is a very, very ambitious plan. We believe that God is calling us to new, exciting and extraordinary endeavors.  For this plan to be fulfilled, it will not only require your involvement and support, but the power and grace of God as well.

Finally, you should know that these areas of emphasis will not replace the existing ministries of our church.  In addition to these areas of emphasis and new callings, we will continue to strive for excellence in all our existing areas of ministry.

There are five separate documents.  Each was developed by a different group of staff, board members and others.  Because each area is different, we allowed each area’s plan to stand unique; as it was envisioned and drafted.  The sixth area of the strategic plan will be drafted in this coming year.  It deals will resources and facility questions that will be essential for the plan to be fulfilled.
The five areas are:
  1. Lifestages – working to develop a connection and ministry for people in any and every stage of life.
  2. Small Groups – an ambitious expansion of our small group ministry.
  3. Missions – a clear definition of how God is calling Atonement to reach out in our local community and world.
  4. Evangelism – we will become a church that cares for lost people and engages all members in reaching the un-churched.
  5. Leadership Development – Development of a ministry for the training of people going into ministry and a ministry that will train lay people Biblically, theologically and practically for ministry.
We will need Atonement members to be actively engaged and working in each of these areas of strategic planning.  If you wish to serve, please let me know.
